The Flower Soft Principle

IF you have ever taken Flower Soft out of its container and tried to put it back you will understand what I’m about to tell you. It is nearly impossible to do.

I have spent the past week moving my craft room from a smaller space to a larger one. So why is it that all the stuff from the smaller space does not have places to go in the larger room. I even took the opportunity to go through my stuff and weed out things I didn’t need or want any more. Oh well I think I just need to organize better.

Blessings!

It has been a week of blessings. First my boss gave me a Brighton Heart Hair Clip. And then a blogging friend made me an embroidered bag see, her blog here. Thanks Audrey! And lastly my friend and stamping pal Judy gave me an HP Laserjet 1200! So many blessings. I know God was reminding me that even though this is a difficult time for me right now, I am still blessed and highly favored! Thank you Sharon, Audrey and Judy for letting God use you! I give Him praise for your generosity toward me!

Stampaway My take

I think this year’s Stampaway was over all good. I’ve been at this awhile so some things seemed repetitious to me; Like Outlines’ booth mostly devoted to the stamping jewelry; but hey if it sells by all means sell it. What was new for me was being able to get some dies from Europe. I bought 2 butterflies and an Oval set made by Marianne and Nellie Snelling, in the Sweet Stamps booth. Learned that there are 67 Cover-a-card stamps by Impression Obsession and they sold out of a lot of them this show. Found a Miles Davis stamp in DP ARTworks; but some how over looked two tribal ones that a friend bought. Lucky for me she brought them over when she came to play on Monday!

IMG_1815

I bought stamps from Loralie Designs and her booth was fabulous.

These are a few photos from the samples in her booth.

Here is what I did with Her Lazy Fairy stamp I was playing with:

IMG_1800

Her stamps have such “attitude”. Teresa said they are sassy and they sure are!

IMG_1803

Teresa came from Atlanta and while here showed me a technique with napkins, I used it for the floral elements with the fairy. Below I used a napkin as the background for the new die from Our Daily Bread and their stamps

IMG_1805

This one includes one of the oval dies from Nellie Snelling. I have not finished this one yet.

Thanks to all my friends especially Rena, Bonnie, Teresa and Pat Hobson who made Stampaway much more of a blast!

Stampaway behind me

So sad Stampaway is over. I feel kinda like the week after Christmas; all the hoopla is done, the friends and family have gone home…but just like after Christmas, New Years is coming and so I have new toys to play with and new memories to treasure.

I took a class with Tim Holtz called Charmed Possessions, I was the first person to get a ticket. Can you say I drove my order to the store the day it came!IMG_1778 and there I am…I’m the elbow on the left.6a00e39827d9ad88330134863bd44e970c-800wi

I was sitting next to Claret and my Friend Mert was next to her. Off camera is my new friend Gail who I met through another online friend Lisa. Found a picture of my classmates, can’t remember the name of Gail’s friend…so sorry, but she was fun to be with.tims's class copy Lisa drove from South Carolina for the event. I was so glad to get to meet her in person after knowing her from several online groups, she is so beautiful. Didn’t get a picture of her how did I manage to forget to do that. Here are the projects we made:

IMG_1788 for this bracelet we were given a fell set of Tim’s type charms and we had some of his papers; so each person left with a completely different bracelet. I was so glad that Tim was generous with the bracelet links I think you got a full 10 inches or so. This next piece is a pin and I can so see it on my winter coat or hat. It is based on a domino.

IMG_1794

This one is my least favorite piece and I think because my kit had copper, brass and silver toned pieces in it. While I’m not so much a matchy matchy type person I just could not make this come together. I will most likely rework it, swap out the chain and colorize the keyhole.IMG_1795

From my least favorite to my favorite; a heart necklace. Love love Love hearts! And a crown for the queen…how did T!m know!!

IMG_1796

I will probably wear the color off of this one!

Back with more on my picks from Stampaway!

Stampaway Week Begins

It the most wonderful time of the year! No its not Christmas but Stampaway Week and for a completely over the top stamper like me this is a very fun time!  I spent the day in the Dayton area at Marco’s Paper. They are having a Stamping Gala and on Monday it was USA ArtQuest day and there were all day long free Make It Take Its.

The first one was making backgrounds with acrylic paint.

Picture 5

We took two pieces of glossy paper this being Stardream; dropped several drops of various paint colors on. Then put the two pieces together smoose around, twirl a bit and the slide apart. I added some glitter to one piece, but each look quite good. The one below is done on black glossy paper:

Picture 6

And you can see right off how generous Marco’s is as here is another one I made.

Picture 7

I don’t know yet what I’ll make out of them but I’m sure it will be great.

Another MITI I did was using a napkin (The Flamingo is the napkin) adhering it with PVA matte and then sprinkling some glitter (I got too much) and then covering it to seal it with PVA Gloss (both my USA ArtQuest).

Picture 8

The last MITI I did was this wonderful pear stamp on Suede Paper

with the pearl-ex palette paints:

Picture 10

Picture 11

In between MITI’s I went shopping at Craft2000 and at Marco’s got to see my Dayton crew Pat, Marie and Lynette and met a new addition Gloria. I spent the day with Bonnie and both the ride up and back was so much fun! Looking forward to Friday’s class with Tim Holtz and the Friday party at Stampaway!

Masculine Cards

Why are masculine cards so difficult for me to make? I certainly like men but cringe every time my customer (sister) asks me to make her a card for a man uugggh!

But hey an order is an order, gotta pay for this addiction some way.. I tried several versions of this idea before I finally found a result I like. I wanted to stamp over a polished stone background. But my background was too dark so after a few tries I gave up and stamped on another piece of cardstock.duke I chose glossy so because my ink didn’t dry right away I was able to sprinkle on some embossing powder and it caught in various places. I liked the effect. dukecu Hope you do to.

White on White

I have an order from a customer; ok my only customer my sister; but she keeps me busy for an anniversary card and a masculine birthday card. When I think anniversary, I think wedding, and when I think wedding I think flowers and I think white.

I have the Tim Holtz flower die so I cut some out of copy paper; yep copy paper. I stacked them together and punched a hole for the brad. Then I sprayed them with spray starch and scrunched them. I created some home made mica spray and sprayed them. I thought I was finished after I stamped love and I was for a few days. That is until I saw LollyChops blog and video on making rolled flowers. Lolly cut hers by hand, but I made mine into an svg and cut them with my cricut!!!anniv card

I rolled the flowers and attached them to the card I thought was finished. That’s what I get for thinking. Hey the cricut was out so why not make a box for this 3D wonder!

I hope my customer will like my creations I sure had fun making them!

By Reason of Strength

My Aunt Anna passed away last Sunday at the ripe old age of 96. Below is her Eulogy that I delivered. It is kind of long for a blog post.

Family (6)

By Reason of Strength

Psalm 90:10

10The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

This text is just a portion of a psalm written by Moses making it one of the oldest psalms. It was probably written in connection with Israel’s failure to possess the Promised Land the first time.

The people (except for Joshua and Caleb) refused to follow Moses and to trust God. Instead of entering the land by faith, had not their experience with God opening red seas been enough, sadly no, they turned back in unbelief, and for this God judged them. He made the nation wander for forty years in the wilderness until all the people who had been over twenty years of age at the time of this lack of faith sin died.

This psalm is also a comparison if you will of the eternal God and finite man. Over and over Moses reminds us of just how transitory life is. 1000 years is as day to God, like grass that came up yesterday and today withers. He tells his hearers that their time has been shortened because of sin and calls upon God for mercy. Moses implores us to spend our limited time here on earth seeking the wisdom to please God. And in this psalm Moses shares with us a secret. Keep listening and I’ll share it with you.

10The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Threescore and ten is 70 and fourscore is 80. So at best the text says that we can expect to live 70 maybe 80 years.

I wonder how long do you want to live?  70, 80 , 90 How long?

Your answer may depend on the type of life you are living right now. A life lived well no matter the length 70, 80 or even 90 years is always too short, and a life lived badly can be painfully long.

I have personally known 7 of my family members who have lived over 90 years; 4 of them are alive; My father, Anna’s brother and their 3 cousins. Now some would say that that means I have longevity in my family lineage; that it is in the gene pool and that may well be true. But what about all the other members of my family who did not live so long not even to 50 let alone 70? I don’t think it’s in the genes alone I think rather that the reason my family is blessed to have so many people who live well into their 90s and by well I mean good enjoyable lives, is because of strength.

In an age when so many are pursuing the fountain of youth Lifting weights in the gym or taking all kinds vitamins or in a diet, Moses tells us that the secret to a longer life is strength.

I don’t know about you but I too would like to live well, good and enjoying life well into my 90s. And I too have spent time in a gym lifting weights and I take vitamins and the dieting, well not so much and I don’t know if any of these will work. But I know that what the word of God says is true, by reason of strength. Therefore I think that strength is something to be obtained, something to be sought after.

During one of the summers spent at Aunt Ann’s, my cousin, brother and I were playing cards and I needed to step away from the table for a moment and as I was walking away I called back to my brother and cousin “Don’t mess with my cards”. Why- did I- say that? Oh my goodness, I heard a scream from the kitchen because my misuse of the English language had offended my Aunt. Needless to say I spent the rest of that vacation taking English lessons each morning with my Aunt; learning that the correct phrase should have been “Please (that was my first mistake I didn’t say please) Please don’t bother my cards”. Therefore I hope to do my Aunt proud; I learned the value of a dictionary and additional study time. I said I learned the value of a dictionary and additional study time.

So while in preparation for this message, I went to my dictionary and found out that strength had several synonyms; power, force, and might and they suggest the capacity to do something. Family (52)

Power is capacity to do work and to act. Force is the exercise of that power: One has the power to do something. Might is power or strength in a great or overwhelming degree.

And I found that one definition of Strength is the inherent capacity to manifest energy, to endure, and to resist. So keep that in mind as we look at this text.

As I continued to study the text I looked up the passage in the Hebrew because sometimes what the original writer intended gets lost in the translation. I found that there are 2 different Hebrew words translated into English as the word strength. And they don’t mean the same thing in Hebrew.

The first time we see strength in the phrase by “reason of strength”; its definition is more like what our current day understanding of strength is but not completely, but I’ll say more on that later.

The second time we see strength in the text “yet is their strength labour and sorrow” it didn’t mean power, force or might; it meant pretentious pride or arrogance.

So if I were to more fully translate this passage of scripture it would say 10The days of our years are 70; and if by reason of force, power or might by the inherent capacity to manifest energy, to endure, and to resist they be 80 years, yet because of our pretentious pride or arrogance we have just made our lives hard work and full of sorrow; and because of that it will soon be cut off and fly away like a bird.

Can I go back to the first strength, by reason of strength your years can be 80; by reason of force, power or might that strength; what it is the source of such strength.

· Where does the capacity to manifest energy come from when you have run the last mile, given your all?

· Where does the ability to endure hardship, suffering and pain come from?

· How do you live through tough economic times and I’m not talking about now, I’m talking about the great depression.

· How do you resist giving up on a relationship that is going through turmoil, giving up on a child; or a hope or dream that has been delayed? Family (15)

· How do you endure the ups and downs of life?

You rely on the strength of others, your community of friends and you rely on family. And you must rely on the true source of all strength, the power, force and might of Our All Sufficient God.

It is by God’s power that we live and breathe and have our being. It is with His ability we endure. I simply could not imagine living without God’s help; without being able to rely on His guidance and now in this time of sorrow to not have His comfort.

Long after the guests have gone home and sympathy calls have all been made God’s comfort will give you the strength. I have experience that God will comfort the brokenhearted. That God will send someone in your life to mother you in Auntie’s place. The tears will fall but they are bottled, caught by God and are so precious to Him. Be comforted to know that your mom is with the source of her strength.

Auntie Ann lived such a long life because she was strong, by reason of strength. One of the ways we gain physical strength is by lifting weights And we can take some examples from Auntie Ann’s life. She was strong because she lifted her voice in praise to our God. Auntie gained strength as she lifted her concerns in prayer. She gained more strength as she lifted her hands to serve others as unto the Lord.

By reason of strength she lived a long life filled with love, love for her parents, her sisters and brother. A life filled with the love a good man. By reason of strength she lived a life filled with the love of her children.

So how long do you want to live? You can live your years badly or you can tap into the source of Auntie Ann’s strength by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and look to Him for the ability to live long and live well. Jesus said that I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.

Moses spoke another secret about longevity and that is to Honor your Mother and Father that your days may be LONG upon the land that the Lord thy God giveth thee. Cousins remember the things she taught you and continue to honor her memory.

To my father Family (2)  and also my cousins I pray that the peace which comes from the memories of love shared will comfort you now and in the days ahead. Love never dies, it can be killed but it never dies. I will continue to pray God’s strength for us all. May God hold you tightly in His Hand.

I will miss you Auntie.

Love Pam

Condolences

Two good friends Bonita and Benita; lost loved ones in 2 days and I am saddened along with my friends. Bonita lost her cousin Nick who just got married a month ago; in a car accident. And Benita lost her mother Ms Dorothy. Wasn't I just at her house eating spaghetti and looking at her shoe collection. I can't imagine loosing a spouse as a newlywed and we are never ever ready to give up our moms. I still miss my mother even after 15 years.

May God comfort these families.

JUST PEARL

I was in the presence of crafting royalty yesterday!! WOOP WOOP WOOP!

I was in Akron at Adventures In Stamping and Tim Holtz was there demoing and sharing of himself. I sat to rest my hurting hip and watch him demo…so not like me at rubber stamping conventions…I’m usually all about the shopping (pardon me if I have ever been distracted). Any who I sat to watch and T!M was just finishing a technique and asked the crowd what we wanted to see next. No one spoke up so I said loudly “JUST PEARL”!

T!M said “just Pearl”?”

QP: “Yep Just Pearl!”

T!M: “Are you sure, just Pearl.”

QP: “Yeeessss Just Pearl. I’m not going to change my mind.”

T!M: “Alright you picked a good product!” And proceeded to show us at least 3 things we could do with the Pearl paint dabber by Ranger.

He was demoing on his signature shipping tags and I thought he was finished so I asked him could I have the tag. T!M said don’t you want me to bling it up! And if you know me there must be bling. And he opened this lovely tool box (which he will be selling in his line soon) and BLINGED IT UP BABY.

AIS (2)

AIS

Of course T!M wasn’t all I did (JUST PEARL); there was the shopping. First we went to Hollo’s Paper and I picked up some much needed 12 x 12 paper to use in my Cricket. I also got some letter size paper and envelopes. At convention here are the toys that came home to play with me!

AIS (4) I was so excited to see new African American stamps at the Rubbernecker!!! More Loralie Stamps and Impression Obsession sold me on the Mega Mount by letting me take for a test drive.

AIS (5)

Finally after looking at Darcie’s shrink plastic CDS for 10 years I bought some; the new designs pushed me over the edge! Just For Fun is back doing its postage templates and I bought some of T!M’s paper as well as SEI 6X6 paper.

My favorite thing was getting to be with my friends who are like minded!

Happy Stamping!

PS:

Please remember my friend and fellow stamper Judy Sanderson along with the missionaries from my church who are in Haiti rebuilding a school.

Freedom

Today I was in divorce court. And just as it began we were there in matching outfits.

Could not make eye contact as we stood giving sworn statements before the judge. In 5 short minutes our marriage was legally ended. What a relief to have this part be over and to feel the freedom infuse my spirit. My fear was that there would be something unpleasant. But nothing was just as it began with pleasantness.

As I sat here a few moments ago celebrating my freedom with a melody of praise music, the Spirit spoke in my heart “now you need a spiritual divorce” and so I prayed. Father divorce me from him. Let there be no soul ties, cleanse me of all physical bonds and release me from all spiritual ties. Free me from anything that this marriage has left in my life. In Jesus‘ name.

May you be free too!

Black History Month

I was asked to teach a card to a group of stampers on the theme Black History Month.

To me It makes me think of Africa and where I came from.

IMG_1520

I used my Black is Beautiful die cut I created for the ATC swap and 2 stamps from

Repeat Impressions for the background. I cut a window in the top layer to frame the postage stamp. Take time and remember your roots whatever that means to you and celebrate

those who came before you.
